Join us for a hands-on natural goat and sheep hide tanning workshop, Friday, August 21 through Sunday, August 23, hosted by Agroecology Commons, the goat collective, and Johnny O'Mara in El Sobrante. Together, we’ll learn agroecological approaches of creating durable, beautiful leather and hides using natural materials and land-based knowledge.
Participants will learn the full tanning process—from preparing and fleshing hides through smoke tanning, softening, and finishing—while deepening understanding of whole animal stewardship and the possibilities of closed-loop practices. No prior experience is necessary; come ready to work with your hands, learn together, and build practical skills with our more than human kin.
This skillshare will be very hands-on and capped at 10 people. If you need assistance with transportation or accommodations, please let us know and we will see if we can assist with carpool or home stays.
